Superserien Week 2 Power Rankings:

1st. Örebro Black Knights

Another week, another (surprisingly) dominant Örebro performance.

Even though the Black Knights “just” faced the league’s 8th seed, Oslo Vikings, their 52-0 win is nothing short of a real statement victory.

The Black Knights, led by Czech RB Brezina (136 Yards & 1 TD vs. Oslo), are once again a real contender for the Superserien championship.

2nd. Carlstad Crusaders

The Crusaders faced the Thonon Black Panthers of the French league in the CEFL semifinal last weekend and their heartbreaking 28-26 loss could be the breaking point of their season.

Either the team is gonna put their whole focus and energy into repeating last year’s Superserien victory or they will have a hard time devouring that defeat.Just ask last year’s Mean Machines players on how it felt to lose a big CEFL game in France just before the playoffs.

3rd. Tyresö Royal Crowns

Tyresö remains in third place on the Power Ranking but has shown tremendous upside after this week’s dominant 34-3 win over AIK.

With two games to go, Head Coach Noghor Jemide’s team is now tied up with both Örebro and Carlstad at 5-1 and could beat any team in this league. You certainly don’t want to be matched up with the Royal Crowns come playoff time.

4th. Stockholm Mean Machines

The Mean Machines have had a much needed Bye Week, giving their new QB, European veteran Brandon Gwinner, some time to settle into their offensive scheme and getting to know his teammates.

With now back-to-back-to-back games against Carlstad and then Tyresö twice, the former serial champ is looking at a tough task for their final stretch of the season with the chance to maybe even drop out of the playoff seeding altogether.

5th. Kristianstad Predators

After 9 weeks of Superserien football, the Kristianstad Predators are in a playoff spot. As weird as that may sound, their most recent 21-14 win over Limhamn and the win over SMM in week 5 gives them the advantage over the ladder with both teams sitting at 3-2!

With now three wins in a row and games against Oslo in Copenhagen still in hand, we could possibly be looking at one of the biggest upsets in recent Superserien history.

6th. AIK

3-34 vs. Tyresö is definitely not what AIK had hoped for. With games against Örebro and the Oslo Vikings on the horizon, AIK’s playoff hopes are most likely buried.Nevertheless, a possible 4-4 or even 5-3 season is an incredible step up from last year’s 1-6 debacle! If AIK keeps recruiting as well as they have this year, the Stockholm team could definitely be in contention for playoff spots in the future.

7th. Limhamn Griffins

As expected, the Limhamn Griffins gave the Predators a really competitive game last weekend, though resulting in a 14-21 defeat. However, their remaining games being Copenhagen and Carlstad, it is most likely that they will finish in Superserien’s “no man’s land” this year.

One might wonder, how the final two weeks of the season would look, would they have not beaten the Kristianstad Predators in week 2…

8th. Oslo Vikings

Sadly, the Oslo Vikings are unable to extend their fabulous play of last season. Losing to the Black Knights with 52-0 now puts them at only one single win this year. The last two games against playoff hopeful Kristianstad and a surprisingly strong AIK team will determine where the former Norwegian champ really stands compared to the Swedish teams. The departure of former HC Derek Mann has apparently had a bigger impact on the team than first anticipated.

9th. Copenhagen Towers

I’m 100% convinced that the Towers do not want to finish last in their first year facing the Scandinavian competition. The former Danish serial champ has games against Limhamn and Kristianstad coming up and could ruin the Predators playoff hopes in week 12!
