PFL Week 7 Power Rankings

Updated: Jun 27

The Polska Futbol Liga (PFL) regular season is slowly coming to an end, but the playoff picture is still not crystal clear. Some playoff spots are just waiting to be taken, and everything can change with the results of Week 8, especially since the first year of the newly reformed PFL has been getting much more competitive as the season progresses.

While concerns about parity in the league were pretty much confirmed by several blowout wins from high-tier teams, it would be an understatement to say that the league was a cakewalk for every playoff participant. We saw upsets, such as the Kąty Wrocławskie Jaguars 6-2 victory over the Kraków Kings, that really shook the situation in the Southern division. There are still 3 teams fighting for 2 playoff spots available, with an automatic qualification for the winner of the Kings vs. Armia Poznań matchup. Also, this Sunday, Polish American football fans will experience the ultimate clash of the capital city’s titans - the Mets face off against the Eagles for the unofficial title of undefeated Northern division winner! Most of the best teams’ regular seasons are already over, and they sit comfortably in their playoff spots observing the rest of the league and the remaining seeding considerations.

DISCLAIMER: This Power Ranking is 100% subjective. While it’s based on the on-field play of the teams listed, you are absolutely allowed to disagree. I’m not holding any grudges against any PFL teams, so feel free to let us know what you’d change in the comments below! Let’s grow the game—not stomp on it.

15. Zielona Góra Wataha (0-7) =

7th in the Southern Group

Last game: L vs Kings 6-49

Next game: vs Falcons (28.06)

A very tough year for one of the two newcomers from a 9v9 league. In every game the defense allowed 35+ points while the offense scored more than 10 points only once. The last game against the Falcons could be the big chance for Wataha to leave on a good mark. Either way, kudos to Wataha for surviving the season financially and not just giving up.

14. Gdańsk Białe Lwy (0-7) =

8th in the Northern Group

Last game: L @ Armia 0-45

Next game: vs Lowlanders (28.06)

Another PFL9 newcomer, another 0-7 season. It will be way harder for a feel-good victory in their last game, as they will be facing the mighty Lowlanders. Białe Lwy had a shot at 2 wins this season and definitely had a better schedule than Wataha, but ultimately failed to capitalize. Once again, congratulations for sticking up for the regular season and giving other teams some good battles. Here’s to the better records for PFL9 warriors in upcoming years.

13. Ząbki Dukes (1-6) =

7th in the Northern Group

Last game: L @ Lowlanders 6-49

Next game: vs Panthers (29.06)

The Mazovian team is the first one from the usual members of the Power Ranking “Void” to win a game. They did it back in May against Białe Lwy, but unfortunately their momentum was quickly shut down by the Lakers, with whom the Dukes lost 6-41. Their last regular season game comes against the Panthers, who are still not 100% sure of their playoff situation. This game can either be a miracle or a very tough experience…time will tell.

12. Olsztyn Lakers (2-5) =

6th in the Northern Group

Last game: L vs Wilki 19-36

Next game: @ Tytani (29.06)

The loss against Wilki Łódzkie last week eliminated the Lakers from playoff contention, which is kind of a bummer since their beginning was promising. Last gameday against Tytani Lublin won’t mean much for the other team, so it can be an interesting football showdown without calculations and taking different scenarios into account.

11. Tychy Falcons (2-5) -2

6th in the Southern Group

Last game: L vs Rebels 7-50

Next game: @ Wataha (28.06)

After coming back from tough beginnings with 2 straight wins, the Falcons defense proceeded to get obliterated in the next 3 games, allowing over 47 points per game. If not for those 2 wins against strong teams of Armia and Wilki, the Falcons could easily be members of “The Void”.

10. Lublin Tytani (3-4) +1

5th in the Northern Group

Last game: L @ Mets 0-49

Next game: vs Lakers (29.06)

I was pretty sure Lublin will become one of “The Void” after their -90 point differential start in the league, but Tytani did something a lot of teams would wish to ⎼ they won all the games they had a clear shot at winning. If it wasn’t for the 0-42 loss to Wilki Łódzkie in the season opener, they could still be in playoff contention (with a little asterisk - their point differential is -133 while Wilki stand at 0. That could be a hard thing to overcome in their playoff clinching process).

9. Poznań Armia (3-4) +1

5th in the Southern Group

Last game: W vs Białe Lwy 45-0

Next game: @ Kings (28.06)

Still in the playoff race, Poznań’s team needs to win vs the Kraków Kings and keep their fingers crossed for the Panthers vs Dukes game in Week 8 to clinch a spot in the postseason. If not for tough losses against the Falcons and Jaguars, Armia would be chilling already with a great chance at guaranteed playoffs before the last matchup. Sadly, that’s not reality and they need to seriously brace themselves for a showdown against Kraków.

8. Łódzkie Wilki (4-4) -1

4th in the Northern Group

Last game: W @ Lakers 36-19

Next game: BYE

Wilki’s momentum was quickly cut short by a combination of the Eagles, the Mets, the Lowlanders and a huge upset against the Falcons. Thankfully for them, a win against the Lakers got themselves a sure spot in the playoffs and now they can use their bye week to prepare for the postseason. A very inspiring season from Wilki, considering huge hardships that I won't directly mention due to my limited knowledge, though I would love to direct everyone interested to learn more and show support at Łódź’s social media page here - (Wilki Łódzkie - jedyna łódzka drużyna futbolu amerykańskiego (@wilki_lodzkie) • Instagram photos and videos) Rest in Paradise #98

7. Kraków Kings (4-3) -2

3rd in the Southern Group

Last game: W @ Wataha 49-6

Next game: vs Armia (28.06)

While the Kings are coming out of a hot streak of two 45+ point wins, they hugely complicated their situation by losing to the Jaguars Kąty Wrocławskie on the road. Right now they can’t afford to stumble against Armia, because it would mean no playoffs for Kraków's team this year. This would be a big disappointment for the Kings, since they are one of the historically best teams playing in the PFL

6. Kąty Wrocławskie Jaguars (5-3) +2

2nd in the Southern Group

Last game: L vs Panthers 29-43

Next game: BYE

Big props to the Jaguars for not only getting back to performing very well defensively, but also for the offense that really stepped up their game. The team from Kąty Wrocławskie is one of three teams that cracked the 60-point barrier in a game this year. Already sure of their appearance in the postseason, the Jaguars are going on a bye week, much needed before primetime when both talents on the offense and defense need to work on the highest level.

5. Wrocław Panthers (4-3) +1

4th in the Southern Group

Last game: W @ Jaguars 43-29

Next game: @ Dukes (29.06)

Consistency is key for the ELF reserves team, because one week they can deal very easily with a motivated Jaguars squad, then the other they can struggle with Armia or get beaten pretty hard by the Rebels. Understandable I suppose since they are a young team. Unless the Dukes pull off an improbable upset in Week 8, the Wrocław Panthers should be confident in themselves getting a playoff spot.

4. Bialystok Lowlanders (5-2) +1

3rd in the Northern Group

Last game: W vs Dukes 49-6

Next game: @ Białe Lwy (28.06)

Scoring under the 35-point mark only twice this season (still, 19 points put up in a loss against the Eagles) shows the Lowlanders are ready & steady to do damage when their time comes. The game against the Białe Lwy won’t change their seeding, so they have a rare opportunity to experiment with lineups, different formations, or even just let the young guns cook.

3. Silesia Rebels (7-1) =

1st in the Southern Group

Last game: W @ Falcons 50-7

Next game: BYE

One score away from being undefeated, the Rebels dynamic offense (averaging over 43 points per game through the season) finally gets some time to unwind in the bye week. Will they get in an even higher gear in the postseason? The Rebels could be a not-so-sneaky favorite to win it all this year.

2. Warsaw Mets (7-0) =

2nd in the Northern Group

Last game: W vs Tytani 49-0

Next game: vs Eagles (29.06)

The Mets offense has been feasting this whole season, as we already know, but what’s even more impressive is how well their defense compliments their offensive unit. Allowing just a little over 11 points per game, the 44 PPG scoring juggernaut is a really big surprise this season and is staying in front of an opportunity right now to become the last undefeated team in the league. Mets vs Eagles will be the most important game of the year so far.

1. Warsaw Eagles (7-0) =

1st in the Northern Group

Last game: W vs Wilki 44-0

Next game: @ Mets (29.06)

After getting eliminated from CEFL in the semifinals, there is now nothing else in the Eagles’ focus other than dominating the PFL. The regular season finale gives them an opportunity to fight with the worthiest opponent in the whole league in the stalwart Mets. Both teams are stacked on both sides of the ball with a slight advantage, mainly from experience, on the Eagles’ side. This is where true champions are defined, so if the Eagles want to make a statement, they need to show us that the Mets are just another regular opponent for them…and regular opponents didn’t end up well after Warsaw Eagles games this season.
