GFL Power Rankings Week 3

PSA: It’s still very, very early. This list will move a lot each week — this is just a baseline to spark conversation. 🙂

North

1st. Dresden Monarchs

I still have Dresden as my favorite to win the whole thing… buuuut Potsdam could also be in this spot. The Monarchs are looking super solid so far — Tyler Hudson has been going absolutely insane on offense. The defense could clean some things up, but I still really like this squad.

2nd. Potsdam Royals

The Royals are rolling per usual and could easily be ranked #1. They’ve only allowed 7 points on defense so far — which is scary to think about. The next couple of weeks should be pretty sizeable wins, so nothing new here: Potsdam remains a strong German Bowl favorite.

3rd. New Yorker Lions

NY is looking solid through two weeks, especially with a convincing 63-0 win over Paderborn. We’ll get a good look at them when they match up against Berlin on June 7.

4th. Hildesheim Invaders

Hildesheim sits at 1-1 after a Week 1 loss to Dresden, but I still think they’re a team that can compete. They’ve got a good matchup coming up against a solid Kiel team, followed by a rematch with Dresden.

5th. Berlin Rebels

Berlin starts 1-2 after tough matchups against Potsdam and Dresden, but they still have the roster to make a run. Like I mentioned earlier, their upcoming game against the NY Lions will be a great test.

6th. Kiel Baltic Hurricanes

Kiel is 1-2 but doesn’t look bad. I expect them to hover around the middle of the pack this season — they’ll pick up some good wins here and there, but the GFL North schedule is never easy.

7th. Düsseldorf Panthers

The Panthers are off to an 0-2 start. They have the talent to win games, but their schedule is brutal. We’ll see how they hold up in the next few weeks.

8th. Paderborn Dolphins

Things aren’t looking great in Paderborn right now — three big losses and more tough games ahead.

South

1st. Pforzheim Wilddogs

MAN!! The Wilddogs are rolling! With so much uncertainty heading into the season — just having moved up from GFL2 — they’ve shocked a lot of people. I really didn’t expect this, but they’ve proved me wrong. Hoping they can keep this up the whole way. UNDERDOGS!

2nd. Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns

The Unicorns are 2-0, sneaking by with 1- and 3-point wins. Is that cause for concern? Eh, not really — but their next two games (against the team below, then against Pforzheim) should tell us a lot about where they stand.

3rd. Allgäu Comets

The Comets took a tough first loss — which many of us didn’t see coming — but bounced back in a defensive win against Saarland. Their matchup with Schwäbisch Hall on June 7 will be an important one in determining this team’s trajectory.

4th. Saarland Hurricanes

Saarland is 1-2, but all of their games have been one-score contests. They just need to find a way to finish strong. They’ll face Straubing on June 7.

5th. Straubing Spiders

The Spiders are also 1-2 going into this week’s matchup against Munich — who are no slouch. A pretty important week for this ball club.

6th. Munich Cowboys

Munich is 0-2, but those losses came by a combined 2 points — both 27-28. They’ve just been unlucky. This team is right there. You can tell they want to be great.

7th. IFM Razorbacks

It’s been a tough start for the Razorbacks, going 0-2. They’ll be back in action on June 8 against the top-seeded team in the South — a big test.
