Yes you heard that right. 4 games were played last weekend and the outcomes were so close, that there was only a 14 point difference between the losing and winning teams across all games. There wasn't a single match this week where you could be sure who will win before the third quarter. Lets unpack this together.
DANUBE DRAGONS VS TIROL RAIDERS (14:7)
WHAT A GAME. The Raiders got themselves an early touchdown in the first quarter and thought they had it in the bag. Second and third quarter was full of turnovers, Countless downs and interceptions, but the Danube Dragons seemed to have lost their ability to score. I know the fans started leaving. But then, in the fourth quarter something clicked. The Danube Dragons locked in and got themselves two rushing touchdowns. That’s what I call a game that holds your attention up until the end.
VIENNA KNIGHTS VS GRAZ GIANTS (20:18)
A third Viennese team joined the league this season and with their debut the Knights showed everybody why Vienna was always and will stay Austrian Capital. They scored two touchdowns, but didn’t get the field goals and after the third touchdown they decided to go for two points, which worked out perfectly for them. The Graz Giants did their best to catch up, but in the end, although they didn't let the Vienna Knights score a single point more, they couldn't match their opponent and lost their second game of the season. Hopefully their home opener will be better.
VIENNA VIKINGS VS SALZBURG DUCKS (17:14)
The Vienna Vikings got a close home opener win, but at what cost? Their starting Quarterback Russel Minor-Shaw injured his ankle and hat to get a surgery on it, which left the 19 year old Kilian Zivko at the head of the Vienna Vikings. But as you can see, he proved, that he may even be the non-import prodigy that the Vienna Vikings needed. Still, the ducks should keep their head up and maybe the score will be switched the next time they play the Vikings.
PRAGUE BLACK PANTHERS VS FEHERVAR ENTHRONERS (29:27)
The two non-Austrian Teams faced off against each other and the Black Panthers showed the Enthroners how its done. If I was the head coach of the Fehervar Enthroners, I would be either retiring or making some radical changes, because this is the only thing that will help this team at this point. But I don’t want to be mean. It was a very close loss and the potential is definitely there. Hopefully that potential will shine against the Vienna Vikings next week.
