Noah Bomba is a German receiver from Würzburg playing for the Coslada Camioneros in Spain before joining the Hamburg Sea devils for the 2024 ELF season. At 23 years old, the young player has already participated in 3 ELF seasons, winning a championship with the Frankfurt Galaxy before stints with the Stuttgart Surge, Leipzig Kings, and Munich Ravens. We’re thankful to have such an experienced player answer a few questions about his journey thus far. HOW IT ALL BEGAN What sparked your interest in football, and who were your early influences in the sport? I grew up in Würzburg, Bavaria, Germany. We had an American Army base back in the days, so my city definitely has an American influence. I discovered Football when I was 15 years old. After 10 years of soccer, I wanted to try out something new. I fell in love on the first day of practice, and it was just an offseason running day lol. After this practice, Coach Martin Hanselmann had a talk with me and that talk really motivated me to stay in this sport. He is still one of my biggest mentors in Football and life in general for me. I never had this feeling of family and intensity before, that's why I love this sport. FOOTBALL JOURNEY Can you walk us through your football journey, from your early days to where you are now? I started in 2016 my Rookie year with the Würzburg Panthers. I won ROY (Rookie of the Year) in my first season and earned team OPOY (Offensive Player of the Year) in my second season. I was nominated and played for the Bavarian All-state team, the Bavarian Warriors. The following 2 seasons I played for the Würzburg Panthers Senior team in GFL3, although I was still a junior aged player. In my second year I had the most Receiving touchdowns and yards on my team, so I decided to take the next step. I wanted to go to college. I visited some schools with my mentor, but due to Corona in 2020, unfortunately it didn't work out. So I decided to go to the GFL at this point and signed with the Frankfurt Universe. A couple months later, after not playing in 2020, the European League of Football got announced and I signed with the Frankfurt Galaxy. What are some of the proudest achievements or standout moments in your football career? My first season in the ELF was one of the best times I had playing Football. A 21 year old rookie, playing all over Europe. I was in the Top 3 for Offensive Rookie of the Year. When you run in infront of 25,000 people in the Championship game and win it all. Wow, that was one of the best feelings I ever had. After that I decided to go back to my mentor in 2022 to join the Stuttgart surge. Learned a lot in that year. From winning the Championship to going 0-12 was tough, but it taught me the lesson to always keep pushing and never give up. The game of football is just like life, you have a lot of ups and downs. It doesn't matter if you win or lose, it matters how you develop as a person and player. GETTING PERSONAL Are there any personal stories or challenges you've faced that have significantly shaped your journey? 2023 was a tough year for me. After going 0-12 in 2022, I got injured and released, so not having a team was tough. On the personal side, my grandfather passed away as well. That really shaped me, he was like a best friend to me, and my idol. It taught me, you never know when it's over, so put 100% in everything you do, and enjoy every moment you have. NOAH BOMBA PLAYING STYLE How would you describe your playing style and the skills that set you apart on the field? I am a big frame receiver. Being 6’4, I use my size a lot to catch balls. I am an aggressive player, who loves to run through walls. I am working my ass off in the gym and on running, to become better and better, because I was never the most talented player. But I play with a lot of heart. When I coached at camps, the players always looked up to me, because the way I coach football is with a lot of fun and heart. CURRENT ROLE AND FUTURE OUTLOOK What is your current role within your team or the league, and how do you see it evolving? I am new to the Sea Devils, but not young to the ELF. I want to become a leader and help the team with everything I have. I want to develop as a person every day, the results will follow, as long as I try to become the best teammate I can be. How would you summarize your legacy and the mark you've left in football? There is always light at the End of the tunnel, never give up. God is great and as long as you wake up in the morning, he is not done writing your story! Thanks for having me!

At only 19 years of age, Dominic Coffman is one of the youngest Americans to ever play football in Spain. Less than a year ago, Coffman was playing in the Earl Barden Classic, which is a High School All-Star game in the State of Washington. “One of the most memorable moments that I have had playing this amazing sport was last summer in June at the Earl Barden Classic. It was a week’s worth of experience that I will never forget.” Domic was kind enough to share his story with me, and it’s a great one that only he can tell. WHERE IT ALL STARTED I was born In Spokane, Washington where I then moved to Whidbey Island, about a 2 hour drive from Seattle. I lived in a small town called Coupeville, I lived there my whole life up to this point. I started playing football at 6 years old because my mom and dad forced me to try something new so I gave football a shot. I hated it at first, but after a while I loved it and I couldn't stop loving it. Once I got to high school, it took some time until I was able to play, and I started to lose the love that I had for the game. However, one of the people who sparked my drive and interest in the game again was one of my teammates. His name is Sean Tooomy-stout. He was a walk-on for the University of Washington. He comes from the same small school and small town as I did, so being able to play with him was a huge spark for me. And to see the way the town praised him and supported him was something I always dreamt of. Sean was also my influence as well as my best friend, Tim,  whom I have been playing football my whole life with. He always pushed me to keep working hard mentally and physically. Really without Tim, I wouldn’t be as far as I am now. CAREER ACHIEVEMENTS In high school my junior year I got to play a lot. I started both ways on offense and defense. I was one of the leaders of the team in tackles with 65 tackles. And 3 interceptions. I was named first-team defense. Then on the other side of the ball, I was one of the leading rushers with 362 yards and 6 touchdowns. I was named first-team offense. Then in my senior year, I was named captain. I ended the season with 80 tackles, 2 interceptions and 6 sacks. I got first-team defense again for the second time in a row. Then on offense, I ended the season with 820 yards and 17 touchdowns. I got my league offensive MVP and was nominated for the all-star game. In one of my biggest games my senior year I had 4 touchdowns down and 1 interception. I got the Washington Player of the Week award after that game. Now I am in my school’s sports Hall of Fame. With where I am now I couldn’t have done it without my amazing coach Bennett Richter. CHILDHOOD ADVERSITY I found out I was adopted. I was born into a pretty bad home and needed to get out of there. My mom and dad took me in and never looked back, they truly are my heroes. Finding out you’re adopted can be hard sometimes, but I knew that my past doesn’t affect me now and that I could use the anger I have towards my biological parents in football. I think that my hardest moment was being so mad at the people who hurt me from the beginning, that I was mad at the people who saved me from them. MORE THAN FOOTBALL I have gotten into photography lately. I’m really bad at it, but I feel at peace when I’m taking photos. I plug in my air pods and just walk around looking for things to take pictures of. I also enjoy trying new things to do, and in Spain there is always something to go out there and do. I start college here in Madrid in March where I’ll be studying business and finance, and I’ll specialize as an athletic director. PLAYING STYLE My style of football is to run through you as a running back. I know I’ll hardly lose a one-on-one with the ball in my hand, I rarely lose yards, and when I do I’ll get those yards right back the next time around. I have been told I remind people of Marshawn Lynch from the way I play on offense as a running back. On defense, I tend to play more calmly but I always want to make the hard hit or big play.  I’m not easy to block, especially at full speed. At home I have inspired kids to not be afraid to hit or run hard. I have been told by a few freshmen I have been their idol and they want to play like me. I know I have changed the way football is played back in my hometown. CURRENT ROLE AND FUTURE OUTLOOK At this time with the team, I’m everywhere, and I am grateful for it. I love being able to play offense and defense when I’m needed. It's something I know I have been able to do my whole life even outside of football. In the future I'll be on both sides of the ball a lot more I believe. I know I can play both sides just need to get my chance. I see my role evolving as I get older, the more teams see me out there, the more they plan on attacking me which will open up my teammates for bigger plays. My goal is to know the playbook fully from the inside out. Once I know the plays I’ll get in more and more, and that’s another goal is to get more reps on offense. It will come to me once I show that I’m ready for it. My experience playing with the black demons so far has been outstanding, every single one of these guys brought me in with open arms, and even though I’m the youngest on the team at 19 years they have been treating me with the utmost respect and I couldn’t ask for a better team. This team is a giant family and you can see that from afar. Another goal for me is to get my team’s trust. Something that every new player needs to have is their team’s trust, and I think I’m doing pretty well at that. My end goal is I want to play for the Madrid Bravos someday. As a little kid, I always wanted to be in the NFL but that is not going to happen. I do have a chance however to play in the ELF and that is something I’m going to work hard for. REFLECTION I believe I have just begun the start of my football career, but I know the marks that I left back at home will always be there for future football stars to build off of. When it comes to my legacy I’m starting a new one in Spain. But my legacy back at home is one that I hope will be used to teach kids of all ages that you can start from a small town and still follow your dreams. It is too early for me to say that I have a legacy in Spain. But I hope one day I do. A quote that has helped me through this whole journey is something I wrote to myself back in elementary school “Never give up, never, never give up '' I wrote this to myself in hopes one day I will make it big, which I did make it big. I know my young self would be smiling ear to ear if he could see us now. CONCLUSION Coffman's journey from the Earl Barden Classic to playing football in Spain exemplifies resilience, determination, and a love for the game. His impressive high school achievements and personal hardships have molded him into a versatile player with a promising future. As he embarks on his college studies and continues to excel on the gridiron with the Black Demons, Coffman's commitment to the sport and his team's trust bode well for his evolution as a player. The 2024 Italian Football League season promises a thrilling offensive showdown as teams gear up to dominate the gridiron. Led by defending champions Parma Panthers, the league's top offensive powerhouses are poised to unleash their arsenal. With Parma's new quarterback Robbie Patterson and standout wide receiver Mikey Alfieri, the Panthers are set to maintain their offensive prowess. Meanwhile, Firenze Guelfi, Ancona Dolphins, and Milano Rhinos are bolstering their offensive lineups with strategic signings and seasoned playmakers. Varese Skorpions are banking on the Griffin brothers to elevate their aerial attack. In a league where high-scoring offenses often dictate success, this article delves into the critical role of offense in securing victories and championship glory. Parma Panthers (7-1) Parma finished 2023 as Italian Champions and are looking to repeat in 2024. Last season, their offense scored 258 points and had the 3rd best point difference in the league at +149. Their offense will be led by new American Quarterback Robbie Patterson (Saddleback CC & U. of Montana). The Panthers also signed American Wide Receiver Mikey Alfieri (Oregon St.). Returning to Parma, league leading rusher and dual passport Athlete Ryan Minniti, who finished 2023 with 867 yards and 4 touchdowns.  He is also a key factor on defense and special teams. Expect the Panthers offense to have a powerful running game behind Mittini and a physical Offensive line, which should open the pass game for Patterson to get the ball to his playmakers on the outside like Alfieri and Wide Receiver Luca Aldrighetti. The Panthers enter 2024 as the top dawg of the league, will Firenze or another team be able to stop them from repeating as champs? ENRICO DI FRANCO, OFFENSIVE LINE “We are a cohesive offense, meticulously structured from previous seasons, providing a robust foundation for continuous improvement week after week. Compared to the last season, we have welcomed new Italian players and two imports. All of them have demonstrated their eagerness and have seamlessly integrated into our offensive playbook, showcasing their skills in training. We have all the ingredients for a successful season. Our ambition for this season is to reach the semifinals of both competitions that the Panthers participate in - the IFL and the CEFL. Our aim is to perform to the best of our abilities, make it to the finals, and emerge victorious in both competitions.” Firenze Guelfi (7-1) The runner- up from last season, was plagued with injuries to key players during the season, but still managed to make the final. Guelfi`s offense finished the season with a league best 345 points scored and a +185 point differential. A run heavy offense, led by homegrown Quarterback Andrea Fimiani and dual passport Athlete Jared Gerbino, they look to take the offense to a new level and make a strong push to recapture the Italian Championship. Firenze has done this by signing 2 American Wide Receivers in Alex LaBella (Hobart College D3) and Ryan De Luca (Furman D2). With their explosive run game which Firenze has shown in the past, they now have 2 import playmakers on the outside which should help this offense be more balanced and keep the defense guessing. Guelfi has the team and experience to win a title, but staying healthy will be their biggest obstacle. As well as competing in the CEFL international tournament alongside the Parma Panthers, they play more games than any other Italian teams. ROBERT MACAJ, OFFENSIVE LINE “The offense came together fast; we just have more weapons to use but not just in the running game but also in the passing game, so the pass protection will be a game changer. The goal of the offense this year, talking from an Offensive lineman standpoint, is to help our quarterback, running backs, and wide receivers to make the right decisions in the running game and in the passing game, and stay healthy for sure.” Ancona Dolphins (6-2) A semi-finalist in the 2023 season, Ancona made a major jump offensively, scoring 103 more points in 2023 than they did in 2022. Dolphins offensively finished the 24’ season 2nd in scoring with 296 points and a +168 point differential. Veteran Quarterback Colin DiGalbo will be returning to Ancona for his 4th straight season with the club. In 2023, DiGalbo finished second in passing yards with 1,703 yards and 21 touchdowns. The team has announced 3 defensive imports: Defensive Back Bo Sanders (Elon FCS), Linebacker Jake Brown (Monmouth FCS) and Linebacker Kelly Chadwick (U. Texas Permian D2). With no other offensive imports announced, you’d expect to see these imports to be filling in and playing both sides of the ball. Overall, this offense will have solid chemistry with a returning Quarterback coming into the 2024 season, they will rely on homegrown talents to help the offense continue the success from last season. After being a semi-finalist the past 2 seasons, the Dolphins are looking to take the next step as a team in hopes of making it to an Italian Final. Varese Skorpions (4-4) The Skorpions were 1 of 6 playoff teams in 2023 and beat the Milano Rhinos in the quarterfinals, but ultimately came up short in a tough fought game against eventual champion Parma Panthers. The Skorpions offense scored 173 points last season and only had a -19 point difference. This shows that a team just moving up to the top league was very competitive throughout the season. A major splash signing for the Skorpions is former Tulane Waves and Tampa Bay Bucs Super Bowl LV Champion Quarterback Ryan Griffin. Joining him is his younger brother Mac Griffin (Boise St./Portland St.). This will be both their first season playing American Football in Europe. The Skorpions also bring back young talent Wide Receiver Matteo Mozzanica. Seems like this team will really want to air it out and have the pass game lead their attack. The biggest task will be protecting Griffin and giving him time to get the ball to his wide receivers. Will the Griffin brother duo be able to take this team to the next level and make a run at the title? LUCA BRIVIO, OFFENSIVE LINE “I think our biggest strength as a team is the group we built, and we keep building.  On offense we have a good chemistry built, and a very rich run game. I think the arrival of Ryan and his brother Mac shifted the strength of our offense, giving us a lot of threats in the passing game. So, even with some changes in the playbook, we have a lot of versatility. We expect to put up big numbers on the scoreboard as an offense. We want to keep striking relentlessly in both the run game and passing game. Last year our defense did an amazing job with no import on the field, and we want to raise the bar to  keep up that expectation. I’m sure the Griffin brothers are going to put up an amazing show.” Milano Rhinos (4-4) Rhinos were able to finish the season by making the playoffs but got eliminated in the first round. Their offense in 2023 scored 154 points and had a difference of -80. In 2023, the Rhinos failed to finish the season with a player in the top 5 in passing or rushing. But they did have a top 5 receiver in yards. They look to get back into the championship discussion by adding Quarterback Hamish McClure who played for Tyresö Royal Crowns (Sweden) in 2023. They also added American Offensive Coordinator Khalil Steward who has coaching experience in Europe (Hildesheim Invaders GFL2). Rhinos also bring back dual passport Wide receiver Romello Bentley, who looks to be an x-factor for Milano this coming season. With homegrown talent like Wide Receiver Andrea Pricoco,  Running back Cristian Gerges, and a full coaching staff led by Head Coach Christian Noble, Milano wants to put themselves back in the discussion for a championship. ANDREA PRICOCO, WIDE RECEIVER “I would characterize our offense as a blend of experience and youth. While we have seasoned veterans who bring leadership and stability to the team, we also have promising young talent to make their mark on the field.” Since the Rhinos last won a title in 2016, the club has been diligently working towards reclaiming the championship in 2024. There has been a concerted effort to strengthen the roster through strategic acquisitions, bolstering key positions and addressing areas of need. Additionally, the coaching staff has implemented rigorous training regimens and tactical strategies aimed at maximizing our performance on game day. Overall, there’s a palpable sense of determination and focus within the organization to bring home the title once again. Lazio Marines (3-5) Newly named from Ducks to Marines, Lazio is working towards having a successful season in 2024. Despite having the league's leading passer and 2 top 5 receiving yards leaders in 2023, the club from Rome was only able to get 3 wins, but still managed to sneak into the playoffs. Lazio scored 231 points on offense and had a -43 point differential during the 2023 campaign. Another team that played closed games but just came out on the wrong side more times than not. They managed to re-sign Quarterback Austin Albericci who led the league in passing yards with 2,196 yards and 22 touchdowns. With their air raid offense and no other offensive imports announced, they will look to get the ball to Wide Receiver Adalberto Rinaldi, a young player with experience playing in America. With a new name and new home stadium, the Marines look to have a fresh start to the 2024 season. Legnano Frogs (3-5) The Frogs are another team which moved up into the IFL. In their first season the offensive unit scored 140 points and finished with a -86 point differential. To compete in the top league, Legnano´s offense will have to perform at a higher level. They have managed to put together a solid group of new signees with homegrown talent and imports. Legnano re-signed run first Quarterback Eystin Salum, a very athletic and explosive player. Salum finished 2023 4th in rushing with 591 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also added 3 int while playing defense. The Frogs also added weapons at the Wide Receiver position, signing former NFL Cleveland Browns: Hard Knocks fan favorite and speedster Damon Guiseppi. Frogs also signed Wide Receiver Carlo Tassan who played for the Milano Seamen in 2023. This offense could be very fast with big play capability. If they are able to throw the ball consistently, this could be a tough offense to stop. MARCONE COLOMBO, OFFENSIVE LINE “We have high expectations. We know we are a young group, but I see some talent, and the additions brought by the Sports Director and the President are excellent, and will help the team. Our objectives are: always give 100%, continue working, and try to improve minute by minute.” Bologna Warriors (2-6) Bologna offense will have to be better this year to help them win games if they desire to make the playoffs. Despite their defense finishing 4th best in the league with 185 points allowed, their offense only managed to score 119 points. In hopes of improving the offense the Warriors have signed Quarterback Ashley Brooks, a veteran to European football having played in Romania, UK and France. Warriors signed Wide Receiver Gabriel Piola, who returns to Italy after lining up for the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns in 2023. With no other offensive imports announced, there is a chance Defensive Back/Athlete Warren Bartlett could play some offense. He is another player that is no stranger to European football having played in Germany for the Rostock Griffins and Oldenburg Knights. This offense will have to be better and score points to help their defense, if they can do this then they could be in a lot of close ball games. Giaguari Torino (Silver Bowl Winner) Promoted from the 2nd division, and back in the top league since 2019, Torino wants to keep building to stay in the IFL for years to come. It seems Giaguari will play with a young homegrown Quarterback Nicholas Dalmasso for the 2024 season and have signed a great group of skill players. They’ve signed Wide receivers Tasmir Seck, Lorenzo Bassi, Andrea Serra and Running Back Luca Assemian who all come over from the Milano Seamen. As well as American Tight End Adrian Tolbert (SW Minn. St. D2), who will help be a force in the run and pass game. Torino´s offense has potential to be very good with plenty of weapons but Dalmasso will have to prove that he can compete and win games in the highest league in Italy. 2024 IFL OFFENSIVE OUTLOOK The offensive prowess displayed by the teams in the 2024 Italian Football League season promises an electrifying spectacle for fans. With dynamic quarterbacks, explosive playmakers, and solid offensive lines, these teams are poised to light up the scoreboard and compete fiercely for the championship title. Whether it's the Panthers' powerful running game, the Guelfi's balanced attack, or the Skorpions' aerial assault led by the Griffin brothers, each team brings its own unique strengths and strategies to the field. As the season unfolds, it will be thrilling to see which offenses rise to the occasion and lead their teams to victory in the highly competitive landscape of the IFL.

Imagine taking a 7 hour bus trip across Germany to play a football game. Now, imagine that you are the underdogs in that game, and could only field 26 players to participate. I’ll let Calum Davidson explain the rest, “Despite the circumstances, morale remained high. We came out firing and won the game by 3 scores. That was certainly the best team win I’ve ever been a part of. A lot of guys, including myself, played all 3 phases on a very hot day. I have immense respect for the guys who put their bodies through that every other week, get home at midnight on Sunday and still wake up at 7am on monday to go to work.” The previous story exemplifies what kind of player you get with Calum Davidson, a teammate that will do whatever it takes for the game of football. Davidson is currently playing wide receiver for the Mallorca Voltors in Spain's LNFA Serie A. Originally from Edinburgh, Scotland, the talented player was able to give us a quick interview about his journey thus far. RUGBY BEGINNINGS Growing up in Edinburgh, Davidson was initially a rugby player before converting to American Football.“I began playing rugby as soon as I could walk. The sport had a huge impact on me growing up and taught me a ton of valuable lessons. It was the first thing in my life that I really had to grind for, lose sleep over, endure pain because of. That effort being rewarded really cemented in my teenage mind how much value there is in setting goals and doing everything humanly possible to achieve them.” FOOTBALL: LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT Calum Davidson’s first interaction with American Football was pure coincidence. After receiving free tickets to a University game from his father, who worked at the University, “I remember watching the game and thinking ‘I could definitely contribute to one of these teams’.” Two former Edinburgh Wolves players hold the credit as influences for Davidson’s play. “Dave is an Xs and Os guy, the way he understood the back and forth between schematics on each side of the ball definitely inspired me to become a student of the game. Steve inspired me through example, he was exactly the type of hard nosed, ‘run through a brick wall for the man next to you’-type of player that I wanted to be.” WHO IS CALUM DAVIDSON More than just a football player, Calum Davidson was the Captain of the Watson High School rugby team, where he was a 2-time Scottish Cup winner, as well a Championship Game MVP. Davidson received his undergraduate degree in Philosophy from the University of Edinburgh. THE FOOTBALL JOURNEY The University of Edinburgh is where Davidson began his football career, before joining the Edinburgh Wolves Senior team where he was named Team MVP twice. He followed that with a three year stint playing in Germany with the Cottbus Crayfish, where he averaged 150 yards a game rushing and led the team in rushing touchdowns. Davidson spent the 2023 season with the Rostic Griffins, where he was named the Team MVP. “Wolves was where I really fell in love with football. I was playing running back and we had an awesome O-line, big nasties with great technique. Wolves was nothing like university football though- university level was about putting your best players around the ball and letting them make plays. At Wolves, we really needed everyone doing their one eleventh to have success and that’s the beauty of football in my opinion. That’s what made me fall in love with the game, understanding the chess match that was going on between coaches while being totally immersed in the brutal mentality we had between myself, Steve and the O-line. At the end of university, I suddenly realized I was going to need a job which is easier said than done with a philosophy degree. The Cottbus Crayfish got back to me with an offer, and I took it without thinking twice. I’m still forever grateful that they were willing to take a shot on an unknown kid from Edinburgh with 4 years playing experience and no contacts whatsoever.” PLAYING STYLE Calum Davidson has a rugby background, but how does that translate to play in American Football? I’ll let him explain, “I know everyone likes to say this... but versatility is a strength for sure. Coming from rugby which is much less specialized, position wise, you get comfortable in a much wider variety of situations on the field. Aside from that, I believe my ability to remain calm throughout the chaos of a gameday can be extremely useful when assisting coaches, reporting back what I’m seeing and feeling on the field and making adjustments. IMPACT ON THE GAME OF FOOTBALL In a short time, Calum Davidson has made a huge impact in the football communities he has served. “I hope that I’ve proved that you don't need a big name program, international or otherwise, behind you to climb the ladder in Europe. I’m passionate about helping those “small school” type guys get noticed if they have the skills and work ethic to make it happen. If anyone reading this wanted to reach out for advice, contacts, etc. I’d be more than happy to help if I can.” SPAIN AND BEYOND “I’m currently mid season with the Mallorca Voltors. After our season wraps up here I’m going back to Rostock with a lot of our imports from last year (and our MVP from the year before) with the aim of winning the GFL2 North. After that, we’ll see... I’ve been lucky enough to be an import for 5 years now and I still feel I have a few prime years left, but once that’s over I’ll be very excited to start ‘life after football’. I have an amazing girlfriend and a great family back home that I’m immensely thankful for, there's a lot of missed time to make up for with them.” PLAYING FOR MALLORCA VOLTORS I asked Calum what his current role was with the Voltors, and his thoughts about the future. “My current role is player/coach for the seniors as well as coaching the youth and flag teams. The Voltors have a very new youth setup but it’s really inspiring to see how many kids there are on an island as small as Mallorca that are excited to play football. It definitely helps keep me grounded and reminds me to always be grateful I get to do this for a living. There’s also a ton of young girl ballers ready to take Spanish football by storm in a few years, that's awesome to see as well. For the men’s team, I enjoy being able to have input into the game plan and what we work on each week. I definitely take a lot of pride in preparing our guys as best we can for what we’re going to face that weekend. THE LEGACY OF CALUM DAVIDSON “I think the main thing I want to achieve is to leave a positive impact at every club I go to. When someone asks anyone at a club I’ve been to, whether that's the Head Coach or a special teams player for the youth team, I want to make sure they remember me as someone who had a positive impact on the club first and foremost, who never felt he was better than anyone else because of import status or any other accolade. FINAL WORDS I asked the talent player to sum up what his journey has been like so far, or if he had any words of encouragement for our readers. “I’m not sure I can even attempt to sum the whole thing up in one quote but something I’ve certainly struggled with over the years is reliance on others. It’s probably more of a cliche than a quote but ‘Life is a team sport’ is something really tried to embrace more. I’ve always had a desire to control my surroundings, and reliance on others can certainly compromise that, but the older I get the more I realize how much potential you miss out on by isolating yourself in that way. After the official punishment to the Pioners due to irregularities on their first game of the season against the Hurricanes, they will battle again this weekend in a must win game for both organizations. This will be a high stakes game that for sure is going to bring in a high level of intensity from both teams after they played arguably one of the best games of the first round. That clash ended with a score of 13-12 in favor of the Catalans (before the punishment). The Hurricanes are coming in hot After a slow start of the season and the decision of the federation to award the team with a victory due to the imports incident, now the Zaragazon team sits comfortably at a 3-1 record. After two wins in a row, they will be looking to take down the Pioners in a rematch of their first game. The key for this game will be their new quarterback Edgar Ulloa, who is coming off an stellar performance after last week's win against the Mallorca Voltors where he completed 20 of 31 passes, had 283 yards on air and 5 touchdowns. In just two games for the Hurricanes, the Mexican player has thrown for 7 touchdowns, being sixth on the list of top passers in the league right now. Another star that should play a big part in the performance of the team are their top pair of playmaking Wide Receivers, Luis Sánchez and Aaron David, both coming off a 2 Touchdown game last week. Then, on the other side of the ball, players that will resonate for sure are defensive backs Iker González, Brayan Carbonell and the American Thomas Davies. Game´s outcome Nothing is set in stone at this point of the season. While a win for the Hurricanes would ensure their second spot in the conference, a win for the Pioners would put them instantly back in the mix to fight for that #2 seed to enter the playoffs. This week the Spanish federation has taken away one of the victories of the L´Hospitalet Pioners due to import irregularities on the field FEFA (Spanish American football Federation) has made official the punishment to L´Hospitalet Pioners by taking away the victory against Zaragoza Hurricanes on Week 1. This is due to the excess number of imports used on the field at the same time. Saturday, January 13 at 18:00 (CET), the L´Hospitalet Pioners faced off the Zaragoza Hurricanes at home in the first week of the LNFA Serie A 2024 season, being the opener of the eastern conference. It was a great game that ended 13-12 in favor of the home team, but there was an irregularity that the  Zaragozan team recognised. Spanish import rules In Spain, the import rule states that “only a maximum of 3 import players may be on the field at a time, identified with an “I” on the helmet” (FEFA Competition Regulation 2023-2024). During the game, the Hurricanes front office alleged that there were up to 4 L´Hospitalet import players on the field multiple times. They tried to warn the ref crew on the spot, but were informed that they had to go directly to the federation, prepare an allegation and challenge the game, which they did. Allegations and judge's verdict The allegation was sent with images that demonstrate that Pioners failed to comply with the alignment. After several weeks, the Single Competition Judge has declared that indeed that was the case and the victory has been given to Zaragoza. Now, L´Hospitalet Pioners stands at 1-3, Zaragoza Hurricanes at 3-1 and they are going to face off again this week in which it is already a great match without the controversy. After last week's great performance by L´Hospitalet against Badalona and the big win by the Hurricanes against Mallorca Voltors, the stage is set for an exciting matchup with playoff implications.

L'Hospitalet Pioners vs Badalona Dracs: The Classic - Jesús Sánchez Sanvicente (20 Feb) Badalona Dracs (4-0) and L'Hospitalet Pioners (1-3) faced each other last Saturday in the “classic” of the Spanish American Football League. With two very different trajectories this season, both teams met in their 50th match at the Complex Esportiu Hospitalet Nord (L’Hospitalet) in a match that could be considered the catalan derby. THE RUNDOWN The locals took the lead with a passing touchdown by Daniel Belso thanks to their recent import, the Mexican quarterback Alex García, making it clear that the team from L'Hospitalet came with the intention of making things difficult for the Conference leader. Dracs reacted immediately with a spectacular 60-yard play by versatile player Alpha Jalloh. The second quarter opened with a new score from Pioners, this time by Mexican wide receiver Luis Enrique García, after a pass from his brother Alex. The recent additions proved to be a success. But this time it was American running back Ra'von Bonner who, after a 31-yard run, tied the score. Before halftime, Alpha Jalloh intercepted Alex García scoring the Touchdown that would make it 14-21 at halftime. After halftime, Dracs expanded the score with a pass from veteran national quarterback Sergi Gonzalo to David Martínez. But Pioners did not bend the knee, and again Luis Enrique García scored after a new pass from his brother Alex to put 21-28 in the score. Alpha Jalloh would get his third score of the game with an 80-yard run. Dracs only needed the flashes of his import stars to dominate the scoreboard. Despite the clock, Pioneers did not give up their efforts and ended up scoring with Alex García's fourth TD pass, this time to Pablo Elena, which left the score at 28-34. AROUND THE LEAGUE In the other conference match, Zaragoza Hurricanes comfortably beat Mallorca Voltors by 35-19, which after the defeat of Pioners places Hurricanes in a comfortable second place in the Eastern conference at the end of the first round.

The 2023 season of the Rhinos Milano disappointed expectations. The team started with a series of important victories, but towards the end of the season, due to injuries and other issues, they lost the most crucial games, including the one against the Skorpions Varese in the playoff wildcard. This year, after a series of signings both in the coaching staff and in the roster, they are ready to prove their worth. Let's hear from Head Coach Christian Nobile, Wide Receiver Bruno Escobar, and Defensive Lineman Claudio Nicola. HEAD COACH CHRISTIAN NOBILE In his second year as Head Coach of the Rhinos Milano, Christian Nobile is ready to take his team to the next level. Over these 2 years, Nobile has worked extensively on the mental aspect of his team, and thanks to his experience, he has certainly brought many innovations to the Rhinos roster. Last season, you started the season  with a series of important victories, but at a certain point, you dropped in intensity and struggled to achieve significant results, including the loss in the wildcard. How many and which mental and tactical aspects have changed in the Rhinos this year? What do you still need to work on? What do you expect from your team in this new season? Compared to last season, we've made numerous changes in the coaching staff and signed many players both on offense and defense. Since September, we've been working very professionally and have grown in unity and confidence as a team. Additionally, to enhance the quality of our roster, we had to make player selections, and unfortunately, 10 players didn't make the final roster. All these aspects have given us a lot of self-awareness. We don't lack humility, but this year, we want to win, and I believe we're ready to do it . Right now , I think we're at about 60% of our potential; there's still a lot to improve. We need to work together to bring out the group's identity and resilience because I believe that when a team learns to suffer together , it also learns how to win. Our group still needs to grow, which is why we're doing team-building sessions. Trustworthiness among teammates will be a crucial element this season. Last year, with the injury of your starting quarterback in Week 1,  you struggled to find continuity. This year, you've signed many Italian players, a new American quarterback, and Offensive Coordinator Khalil Steward. How is the offense working? How have the new Italian players and Hamish McClure integrated into the offensive system? I'm very happy to work with Khalil this year. I needed a young and motivated coach, and he came to Milan with something to prove. He has a lot of enthusiasm, pays great attention to detail, and has incredible energy. All these aspects are reflected in our offense, which has become very energetic and explosive this year. The Italian guys we signed have integrated very well into our team. Hamish and Raven, our two quarterbacks, are improving practice by practice.  We're working very well during practices because Khalil and I are focused on the team 24/7. The other two coaches we signed, Gabriele Zaccarelli and Marco Massironi, bring a lot of experience to our coaching staff and both invest a lot of time in the team. So I believe that our offense will be much more efficient and consistent this year. You have been the most active team in the market, and in defense, you have signed many experienced Italian players and the American LB Dustin Huseinovic. How much do you believe the defense has improved this year? What are you still lacking? How much is the work of the new quality coach Brian Pariani helping you? Are you ready to step up on the next level? Brian Pariani is an incredible asset  for us. Together with him, we have three meetings a week where we evaluate players, plan practices, and study new offensive schemes and routes. Despite his NFL experience, Brian is a very humble person who makes himself available and listens a lot. I'm very pleased with the defensive players we've signed; they all have a great attitude, and Dustin is outstanding, both as a person and as a player. He directs the defense very well, and I'm confident he'll do a great job. This year, we  trust in our group of Italian defensive backs and we invested heavily in them, unlike other teams that often choose to sign an American safety. Honestly, last year was very disappointing for me. I expected us to reach the semifinals, and the fault of the failure was all on me and the coaching staff. However, the positive aspect of last year is that we started to introduce a winning sports culture. I want the Rhinos to win the championship this year, and I don't want to hide that. Anything could happen this year, but I am truly aware and confident in my team. We've worked with the awareness of wanting to achieve specific goals. WIDE RECEIVER BRUNO ESCOBAR Let's hear from Bruno Escobar, who was certainly one of the key players on the Rhinos' offense last year and is very confident in his team's abilities this year. You played a key role in the Rhinos' offense last season. This year, with a new offensive coordinator and a new American QB, what are the expectations for the Rhinos' offense? How's the connection with Hamish McClure going? Which tactical aspects are you focusing on the most? Our new offensive coordinator's goal is to score as many points as possible. We want  to win games with our offense. We lost Simone Boni, one of the best  receivers in the league, but the return of Romello Bentley and the arrival of Hamish still make us a solid offense. This year, compared to last season, we'll have a more balanced offense between running and passing. The addition of running back Manuel Savoia gives us a valid option for the running game. The playbook is completely new, and I really like it. Hamish is very physically ready and runs the ball very well. Last season, you struggled to find offensive stability. What do you think will change this year? What mental aspects do you still need to improve? How much confidence does your group have for the upcoming season? This year, we have two strong quarterbacks available, both capable of playing and giving us different options. The team is very united both on and off the field, and we often hang out together. We're working a lot on maintaining focus after a mistake; Coach Khalil cares about  this mental aspect a lot. When the games get tough, it will be important to stay mentally focused, and we're ensuring that we have it when needed. Both Coach Nobile and Coach Khalil are doing an incredible job of strengthening our confidence; we can really achieve great things this year. The new guys have integrated very well into the team, and many of them have already become starters. DEFENSIVE LINE CLAUDIO NICOLA Let’s finish the interview with Claudio Nicola’s words , who’s returning to the Rhinos after 5 years playing with the  Seamen and he’s gonna be one of the leaders of their defense . After 5 years, you've returned to the Rhinos. How many and what aspects of the team have changed over these years? How do you feel about the transition between the European League of Football (ELF) and the Italian Football League (IFL)? How’s the team working for the upcoming season? I'm very happy to be back with the Rhinos, and the group has obviously changed, but in a positive way. The transition from the ELF to the IFL is more noticeable from a physical standpoint rather than a technical or athletic one. We're a young team that has everything to prove and a desire to do well. They've put us low in the first power rankings, but we don’t care about it,  we just want to perform well in the championship. We're training well, we have a highly skilled coaching staff, especially Gis (Coach Nobile), who is doing an incredible job and is a role model for all of us. We'll do everything possible to go all the way. You've recently returned, but you're certainly one of the leaders of the Rhinos defense. How is the defense going with the arrival of so many new players? Do you think the new American LB, Dustin Huseinovic, will have a good impact on your defense? What are your goals for the new season? As far as I'm concerned, we don't play unless it's to win. Dustin is a very precious player for our defense; he immediately made himself available to everyone. He has all the qualities that a linebacker needs: he's fast, intelligent, and has excellent physicality. When you have a single goal, everyone works together to achieve it, and that's what the defense is doing. We're not afraid of anything, and every practice we're improving more and more. We're constantly monitored and corrected on Hudl to improve our performance. If there is something that stands out about Spain in the European football landscape are their skill players, such as Jordi Torrededia (newly acquired Wide Receiver for the Dresden Monarchs), Mario Flores (Bravos Wide Receiver), the Brugnani brothers (Barcelona Dragons), Toni Montón (Barcelona Dragons Running Back), Roque Alarcón (Valencia Firebats Wide Receiver) and many more. With them, each and every year new diamonds appear to stand out from all over the national teams. The new generation is stepping strong and this is a list about underrated young skill players from each of the LNFA Serie A teams that everyone should keep an eye on. DISCLAIMER There are a lot of young players not included on this list who meet the requirements but they are already well known and established in the Spanish football community and even are part of the National Team. Some of them are the already mentioned Jordi Torrededía (21 years old), Jorge García Vargas (Black Demons and Bravos Wide Receiver), Edu Pérez (Osos and Bravos Wide Receiver), Álvaro Cansinos (Black Demons and Bravos Defensive Back), Daniel Romero (Black Demons and Bravos Running Back), Iván García (Camioneros de Coslada Wide Receiver), etc. Alekxander Araujo, Defensive Back Alcobendas Cavaliers Alekxander Araujo is a true game disruptor of a Defensive Back. He is 19 and has been playing for 11 years, making him the longest tenured player on this list. Originally is from Panamá, but has been playing here in Spain for the last two years while studying in college. His first year was with the Serie B team Pinto Goldbats, and now he’s made the jump to the Serie A with the Alcobendas Cavaliers. As a player, Araujo stands out because of his physicality and aggressive way to play the game. In his first year in the league, he’s been making noise as one of the defensive backs that hit the hardest, something that he has proved on repeated occasions as his primary position is nickel back and stopping the run is one of his specialties, but without leaving aside that he will stick to his receiver like glue and will not give an inch of separation thanks to his efficient cuts and hip play. Another one of his assets is his extremely high football IQ due to the fact that in his long 11 years playing he has been all over the field, offense, defense and special teams, excelling in each and every one of them. Of all the players that will be reviewed on this list, Araujo is the only one that can say that he’s been drafted as he was selected with the first pick of the second round in the Kiwanis Football League (the best football league in Panamá) drafted by the Los Brader Raiders and then traded to the Kiwanis Kolts (oldest football program in Panamá) before coming to Spain to study. During his time with the Kolts, he received the revelation player award in the 2022 season. It is important to highlight that he’s been selected by the Panamanian U20 National Team to play in the World Championship this summer. Everyone should keep an eye on #5 for the Cavaliers every game as he continues to make a name for himself in this country. Eric Ladero, Wide Receiver Badalona Dracs Eric Ladero is only 19 years old and is the player with less experience playing football on this list (just one full year of organized football under his belt). Despite that, he is probably one of the young players making the most noise on the Spanish scene. Before football, he played water polo almost all his life, which has helped him meet the physical requirements of football and excel right away on that aspect. Quickly he has become one of the top targets of the Badalona Dracs in one of the most stacked national receiving corps in the entire country. Ladero is the definition of a big body receiver who will come down with the ball in the most difficult situations, doesn´t matter if it's double or triple coverage, his strong hands will make a 50/50 ball turn into an 80/20 ball whenever the quarterback throws his way. Adding to his strength, his smooth route running and speed shouldn't be underestimated. Among his achievements on this year of football he has played, we highlight some great performance in two finals, the Catalan Cup, where he was named MVP, and the Spanish Cup final against Black Demons (reigning champions of every major tackle tournament in Spain), where he had an stellar performance with 11 catches for 183 yards and 2 TDs. Look out for Ladero as he continues to cement himself a name and be one of the most special young Wide Receivers we have seen in some time. Luca Rusca, Wide Receiver/Safety Barcelona Pagesos Luca Rusca is a 24 year old Wide Receiver and Safety for the newly promoted to the Serie A Barcelona Pagesos. It is his 6th year playing football, all of them for the Pagesos. If you have to describe Rusca as a player, you definitely use the word “versatile”. He is the only player on this list who currently is playing on both sides of the ball, and he is balling out in both. Luca is one of the most valuable national assets for the Pagesos, standing out as a sure handed pass catcher whose vision and electric playmaking ability gives him the capacity of being a game changer. Another one of his strengths is the intensity he plays with, making him an extremely dangerous player after the catch that never goes down with the first contact. His performance on the field last season was key for a well rounded and structured Pagesos team to win the Serie B Championship, which led to the team´s first ever promotion to the first division. Iván López “Terry”, Quarterback Camioneros de Coslada Iván López, also known as Terry, is the only quarterback on this list and one of the top young prospects in Spain. He is 19 years old, but has 9 years of experience, primarily as a quarterback, but also a little bit as a defensive lineman, something almost never seen. Despite his young age, as a first year Senior, he is the quarterback 1 of Coslada´s team. His strengths as a passer are his touch on the ball, arm strength, deep ball ability, his toughness and presence in the pocket, and being able to break multiple tackles of defensive linemen and linebackers before touching the ground. His physical style and playmaking ability is reminiscent of Big Ben Roethlisberger's own game style. In his already long tenured career, he has played at the top Junior level of Spain for many years, even being selected to the Junior National Team  where he split snaps as a quarterback and defensive linemen in the games he appeared. Something to highlight in his career is that in his Junior years he attracted heavy interest as a Quarterback from the European powerhouse and D1 players producer NFL Academy, even being invited to fly to England for the Academy´s combine. In his first season as the Senior quarterback 1 for the Camioneros, he has thrown 7 TDs, run for another, and led his team to a 2-1 record. Iván Bravo Díaz, Safety Gijón Mariners Iván Bravo is only 19 years old, but has been playing for 8 years already. His principal position is safety but one of his main strengths is his versatility, being able to rotate on almost every position of the defense, and when needed, step up on offense too. This is thanks to a great set of hands that turns him into a ballhawk. But if we have to talk about his strengths, this season he is making a huge impact on the Mariners thanks to his tackling ability, consolidating himself probably as one of the best tacklers in the league. Despite being so young he has become one of the captains of Gijón, and due to the already mentioned tackling ability, Bravo has become a specialist in stopping the run with one of the highest average number of tackles per game. You can say he resembles Minkah Fitzpatrick´s game style. In his career he was called up for the Junior National Team three  times: against Italy, Belgium and the Czech Republic last year, showing flashes of what he is capable of on the international stage. Definitely, if you want to see some big tackles and a passionate player on the field, you gotta check out Mariners’ #27. Alvaro Molano, Wide Receiver Las Rozas Black Demons Alvaro Molano is a Wide Receiver for Las Rozas Black Demons. He is 20 years old and with a background in soccer, he made the jump to football just two years ago, but he has for sure made the most of It. In terms of his specialties, he is a big strong receiver who also has quickness, a very polished technique, a special talent to disguise between defenders, and always find the soft spots of the defense. Another big tool of his game is that he has a secure pair of hands that guarantee that he's going to come down with the ball in the most clutch moments. Three games into the season Molano has 10 catches for 175 yards and 4 TDs, which shows the red zone threat that he is. Despite being in one of the most loaded national receiving corps with names such as Jorge García Vargas, Jorge García Valcarcel or Jesús Pérez, Molano has been able to make a place for himself and stand out so far this season and show flashes of what he is capable to do. With his mindset and the great players and coaches he is surrounded by, Álvaro Molano it's going to make people talk about him. With so much years left to play, #81 in black is only getting started. Oriol Adriá Lombarte, Running Back L´Hospitalet Pioners If you think about a horsecollar running back with the leg strength of a truck, you gotta think of Oriol Adriá. Only 20 years old, 3 playing football, and he has already had a stint with the Barcelona Dragons of the European League of Football, being on the Practice Squad this past season. Oriol started his career back with the Barcelona Uroloki, actually in the Catalan regional league, and has recently decided to make the jump to the first division with the Pioners, where he is already making head moves. Among his strengths are his lower trunk force, his reaction speed and his vision, and being able to read and hit the hole efficiently every time he touches the ball. One of the assets of his game is his capacity to gain yards even when nobody in the stadium thinks he can, always gaining 3, 4 or 5 yards after contact, being able to carry multiple defenders without going to the ground. Putting this into perspective, this past Spanish Cup he had an average of 7,7 yards per carry, so next time you see Adriá, he will be probably running for a first down with one or two defenders on his shoulders. Pascal Sendelbach, Cornerback Mallorca Voltors Originally from Berlin, Pascal Sendelbach moved to Mallorca at a very young age, where he has been playing football for more than 3 years. Now only at 19 years old, he is a cornerstone in the Voltors’ defense, being one of the most physical Defensive backs in the entire eastern conference. In addition, he has a very secure leg, being the team's kicker. If you have to describe Pascal’s game style, it is that he hits hard big time. Play after play he is an expert in punishing receivers, whether it's destroying blocks, tackling hard or sticking to them like there is no tomorrow, especially on the deep routes. Despite being so young, he has accolades such as being part of the first ever generation of the Barcelona Dragons Academy where he developed his game with top notch coaches and then was part of the Barcelona Dragons active roster this past summer measuring against big time name receivers such as Markell Castle. Pascal has a bright future ahead of himself and I wouldn't be surprised if he has a breakout season in Europe sooner than later. Pablo Olivares, Wide Receiver Osos de Rivas Pablo Olivares is a receiver for the Osos de Rivas who is playing his first season in the Spanish Serie A after spending his first years with the Pinto Golbats of the Serie B. He is the only player on this list with experience abroad in another European country, as he played last season for the UNC Crusaders of the Finnish Maple League. Olivares is 25 years old and has been playing this sport for the last 3 years. Despite his limited experience, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in Europe as it is the Maple League has taught him immeasurable professional-like mindset and knowledge with top notch players in the continent. That probably has helped a lot with his game as a primarily slot receiver, which stands out thanks to his sharp route running and being extremely efficient in and out of his breaks giving the defense no time to react and creating separation consistently. In addition to that, he is a dangerous deep threat due to his speed and agility that are at the level of the top players in the league, making him stand out in a well known receiving core as it is the Osos one with names such as Edu Pérez or Iván Iordanov. Alonso Muñoz, Cornerback Zaragoza Hurricanes Alonso Muñoz is the definition of a lockdown corner. The 21 year old young baller has been playing for 6 years, every one of them in Zaragoza. He has a background at the quarterback position, which has helped him become a reading machine. He is probably one of the most resonant young players in the entire country, known for being a technician who is used to facing the best receivers in the league, being able to put them on his own island repeatedly. Alonso may not be the biggest player on the field, but he has the “it” factor. His extremely high football IQ, efficient breaks and technique, and experience at the national top level since his Junior years have made him an all around player, able to disrupt every game and be a game changer for the Hurricanes. He is for sure someone to keep in mind for every Offensive Coordinator that has to game plan against Zaragoza. Among his stats this season, Alonso may be one with the best on this list, being able to put up 3 interceptions, 1 forced fumble, 3 pass breakups and 4 tackles for loss in just three games. Alonso Muñoz is definitely one of the players to follow for the future in Spain and the whole European football landscape as he for sure will make a lot of noise outside the Spanish frontiers once he gets his opportunity. Mallorca Voltors (2-1) and Zaragoza (1-2) Hurricanes face each other this Sunday at 12:00 at the CDM Movera (Zaragoza) in a match that seems vital for the playoff aspirations of both teams, just when we are finishing the first half of the season. In a conference absolutely dominated by Badalona Dracs (3-0), both the Voltors and Hurricanes need a win in order to maintain their aspirations until the final stretch of the regular season. The other team in the conference, L'Hospitalet Pioners (2-1), play against Badalona Dracs. Mallorca Voltors The Balearean team lost last week against Badalona Dracs in a match in which they put up a fight during the first quarter, but which had already gone to half-time (27-9 for Badalona) and which they would end up losing by a resounding 54-9. The depth on the Voltors roster is their biggest weakness. The team, well trained by veteran Mexican Head Coach Jesús Sánchez, has its best weapons in American Quarterback Zahir Wilder and British Wide Receiver Calum Davidson. However, the team falls short of facing the competition with guarantees of success because of the limited (in numbers, but not in talent) national roster. Zaragoza Hurricanes For its part, Zaragoza Hurricanes defeated Barcelona Pagesos (7-19) last Sunday, finally achieving its long-awaited first victory. Despite having the recent incorporation of their import Quarterback, the Mexican Edgard Ullóa, Renan Santana's men had a hard time defeating Pagesos who took the lead on the scoreboard and who ended up giving in to the push of the receiving corps of Hurricanes, one of the most complete in the league, and its lockdown secondary. Sadly, Zaragoza Hurricanes lose Gabriel Rodríguez for this match. The dominant offensive lineman had to leave the game after an ugly play, and will be sidelined without the severity of his injury (knee) being known for now. RECENT HISTORY Both teams met recently, during the Spanish Cup, in which Voltors took the victory by 0 to 6. On that occasion neither of the two teams had their important quarterbacks, so we will have to see what they are capable of doing now that their import players are on the board. GAME PREDICTION Given the recent form and key player absences, the game between Zaragoza Hurricanes and Mallorca Voltors seems poised for a tightly contested battle. While Voltors have demonstrated resilience led by Quarterback Zahir Wilder and Wide Receiver Calum Davidson,  the Hurricanes, buoyed by their recent victory, possess a formidable receiving corps and a solid secondary. However, the absence of key offensive lineman Gabriel Rodríguez could pose a challenge for the Hurricanes. Considering their recent encounter in the Spanish Cup, where Voltors emerged victorious, they might have a slight edge. Yet, with both teams now fielding their import players, the game could swing in either direction. It's likely to be a closely fought match with the outcome determined by key plays and strategies implemented on game day.

Last season, the Skorpions Varese were a true surprise in the league. In their first year in the IFL, they reached the semifinals of the championship and demonstrated excellent team solidity. This year, after signing important American and Italian players, they are ready to raise their level. Let's hear from Head Coach Nick Holt, Wide Receiver Matteo Mozzanica, and Safety Nicolas Principi about their goals and changes for the new season. HEAD COACH NICK HOLT Let's begin with the questions for Head Coach Nick Holt, who’s heading into his fourth year with the Skorpions and has been able to improve his team mentally and tactically over the years. Last season, as underdogs in your first year in the IFL, you reached the semifinals and were one of the surprises of the league. What are the most important mental and tactical aspects that led you to the semifinals? Which of these aspects still needs improvement? What do you expect from the team this season? How much has the team changed after four years with you in Varese? In our first two years in IFL2, we had a really good system and really good Italian players. The IFL was a big transition for us; we were very thin on the offensive line and defense, especially with our linebackers. We played the entire season without a backup quarterback, and our best receivers were unavailable for most of the season due to injuries and other issues. However, because we had a good system, good leadership, and a strong organization, we were able to fight through some early games. We kept working hard and improved throughout the season. The way we do things and the way we practice paid off at the end of the season. Jumping up to IFL1 is hard, and we faced a lot of adversity as a team. Now, I believe we're more experienced, and our players understand the competitiveness of IFL1. We've also added some new players who will help us significantly. On paper, we should be a little better than last year, and I hope so. So, we had growing pains; we had to grow up a little bit, and that’s what last year was all about. Your offense last year consistently performed well, both in passing and rushing. This year, you've signed many Italian players, including former NFL quarterback Ryan Griffin and his brother, receiver MacClaine Griffin. How much will the level of your offense rise with the arrival of these players? How will the game plan change tactically? How have the new Italian players integrated into the team? I’m really happy that we were able to sign Ryan and his brother Mac Griffin. Ryan has tons of experience at the highest level, and he was a great college player too. He’s very accurate throwing the ball and he’s smart. He’s a good leader and he’s going to help us tremendously with our offense, coaching up the other players. We had a really good quarterback last year, but he was a running dual-threat QB and he did a fantastic job. This year, I think we're going to be a little different. Ryan can throw the ball downfield maybe a little bit better, but what’s great about this year is that we have a lot of our receivers back, and we have some new players who will help us, including his brother MacClaine. Like I said, on paper, we helped ourselves out. Ryan is doing a great job installing new stuff for us that we can use to be a better offense, and I'm excited about the knowledge that he brings to our team. These aspects will enable me to focus more on defense and special teams. Last year, your defense definitely lacked the presence of an American player, yet you remained solid throughout most of the season. This year, you've signed many experienced Italian players. Do you believe the defense will be even more solid this year with these signings? How will you manage the absence of an American player again this year? I really like our new Italian players on defense. We have a couple of new players that will really help us this year, and together with our returning players, we have a better defense this year. Our defense, especially the linebacker core, was really young last year, but we really improved ourselves with Nicolò Fonti, who’s doing great as a Will linebacker, and Christian Sottura, our new safety. We’re in the process of recruiting another dual-passport guy, but it’s hard to find one. However, MacClaine Griffin can play defensive back as well, so he will play both ways for us, which will help. But we really need to find a good Mike linebacker, and if we can find one, I think we can be really good on defense. Because our secondary is good, our corners are good, and our Defensive Line is good, we just need to solidify our Linebacker core to be in good shape this year. WIDE RECEIVER MATTEO MOZZANICA After hearing the words of the head coach, let's continue the interview with Matteo Mozzanica, a young talented receiver who believes that the Skorpions' offense this year will be hard to stop. Last season, you were one of the key players in your offense, and overall, your group of receivers performed very well. How’s the new QB Ryan Griffin doing ? On which tactical and mental aspects will your offense change with the arrival of a former NFL QB? Do you believe you'll be able to score many points this year? This year, the wide receiver group, with the addition of new guys, has become very solid and even richer in talent. The arrival of a former NFL quarterback gives everyone the opportunity to get involved and improve tactically. Ryan explains the coverages and how we should run routes depending on the defense we're facing. He's also helping us a lot with our footwork. His throws are very accurate , his game reading is incredible, and his experience helps us a lot. What we need to grow mentally is the fact that despite last season being good for us, we still have a lot to prove, and we can never be satisfied. We need to stay united because this year we'll have the chance to compete on equal terms with the contenders. This year, I believe our offense will be the key to our success. What are the strengths and areas you need to work on in your offense? How have the new Italian players and the American MacClaine Griffin integrated into the team? Do you think you're ready to step up to the next level? The strength of our offense will be the variety of our playbook. With the arrival of new players, we will have the opportunity to show many different formations, so I believe the tactical aspect of our offense will be crucial. The new guys have integrated very well and give us good alternatives that we often didn't have last year. MacClaine is a very versatile player and can play in many positions, so I believe we will have the chance to compete on equal terms with the contenders . Like I said, our new playbook is way better than last year . On paper, we have an experienced offensive line, an experienced quarterback, and all our skill players are strong and ready to prove their talent . However, I believe it will be important how we approach the games mentally. When we face stronger teams, we will discover our true value. We have many strong and young players, so if we all execute perfectly what our coaches ask us , we will be a very difficult offense to stop. SAFETY NICOLAS PRINCIPI Let’s conclude the interview  with the questions for Nicolas Principi ,  one of the most experienced guys in Skorpions’s defense and captain of the team. He's ready and motivated for the new season. You are one of the veterans of the defense. How much and on which mental and tactical aspects has the Skorpions' defense changed in recent years? How much will the new players you've signed be able to change your defense? How much will the temporary absence of an American import weigh on the defense? The absence of an American player on defense has accelerated the improvement process for the guys in their first year in the IFL, so it hasn't been just a negative aspect. With the arrival of Nick Holt, our defense has made excellent progress over the years, as he coached defense in his college career. We're still looking for a dual passport player, but we don’t really care about it now ; we're just focused on doing our job well. Thanks to the new players who have arrived, we have a defense characterized by a mix of young and veteran players. We're a good group, very united, and very versatile, which allows us to play many different types of defense. We've signed very experienced players who have integrated very well into our team. Since we started training, we've immediately felt comfortable playing together. One of your strengths is definitely the unity of the group. How much has Nick Holt's presence influenced this aspect? Besides this, what do you think you still need to work on to improve as a team? The unity of the group has always been our strength and the motor  of our team. Nick's arrival has brought us a new method and a different approach in the way we practice. He pushes you to always give your best, he's a leader who always manages to be listened to, and he has managed to improve our team starting from small things like our routine and pre-game warm-ups. The aspect we need to work on as a group is to be better at understanding situations and become smarter players on the field. This aspect, thanks to our head coach's philosophy, has been improving a lot lately. We need to pay attention to details and be better at communicating with each other. Last year, at the beginning of the season, everyone defined  us as underdogs. Despite that, we showed that we were able to win many important games, and at the end of the year, many of them complimented us. We're here to win, and this year we're not afraid of anyone. 2024 Varese Skorpions Perspective The Varese Skorpions surprised many in their debut IFL season, reaching the semifinals. With strategic signings like former NFL quarterback Ryan Griffin and a strengthened defense, they aim to elevate their game. Head Coach Nick Holt emphasizes a balanced offense under Griffin's leadership, while defensive improvements focus on linebacker depth. Wide Receiver Matteo Mozzanica anticipates a more versatile playbook, aided by newcomers like MacClaine Griffin. Safety Nicolas Principi highlights the team's unity and enhanced defense. Despite challenges, the Skorpions are poised for a competitive season, aiming to prove their worth against top contenders.

Last year, the season for the Dolphins Ancona ended in the semifinals against the Guelfi Firenze. Despite this, the team showed that they were at the same level as one of the strongest teams in Italy. Year after year, the Dolphins have proven to be stronger and are now one of the contenders for the IFL 2024 season. Let's hear from head coach Roberto Rotelli, offensive lineman Stefano Chiappini, and safety Raffaele Rotelli regarding their goals for the upcoming season, their changes in offense and defense and the strength of their confidence and group. Robert Rotelli, Head Coach Let's start with the questions for Head Coach Roberto Rotelli , who has been coaching the dolphins for years and now is more confident than ever on his team and players. For a few years now, you have established yourselves as one of the strongest teams in the league. What mental and tactical aspects have you worked on during these years? How much more confidence does the team have now? Do you believe you are ready to win the title, or do you still lack something? You can never believe you're ready to win the title; there's always an extra step to take to reach that goal, but we're working on it. I believe we shouldn't care about the reasons why we've reached this level, but instead on how important and difficult it is to maintain the same intensity once we've reached that standard. We always need to find the right stimuli. This year, most of our players started the offseason and athletic preparation work in September, which allowed us to have excellent physical condition from the early practices. I see the team very united and focused on the same goal. I also want to emphasize that the presence of Rik Parker, our quality coach and Defensive Coordinator, has greatly influenced the mentality acquired by the team over the years. In terms of choosing imports, you have consistently proven capable of signing American players who can change games. This year, you have re-signed Colin DiGalbo for the fourth year in a row. How important is he now in your offensive system? Will there be changes on offense? Will we see a fast-paced offense balanced between running and passing this season? How will you handle the absence of a playmaker like Luciano Giuliani? The selection of American imports comes from a deep and long scouting activity. We always prefer to select players from D2 programs because, compared to D1 players who are used to playing in stadiums with 70,000 people, they are better suited to our level of football. We analyze their statistics and college accomplishments. Colin is crucial in our offense; we've introduced new schemes and plays with him, which we tried last year but weren't perfect. This year, our offense will be balanced between runs and passes, and we'll use our American players on defense also for offense like previous years. The absence of a playmaker like Luciano will certainly weigh on our offense; I'm happy for him that he'll have the opportunity to play in such an important league like the ELF. However, I believe that our other receivers will be able to step up in his absence. On defense, you have also signed a Safety and a Linebacker this year, Bo Sanders and Hayden Kelly. What do you think about  both of them? Do you believe they will be game changers? What aspects of the defense do you consider positive, and which ones do you consider negative? Both of our defensive imports have been excellent players in their college careers. Bo Sanders, in particular, having played as a receiver in high school, will also help us on offense. He has excellent hands and moves very well on the field. Hayden will join our defense, which has been our strong point in recent years with all the starting players, but we faced some issues when injuries occurred. He's a Texas guy, an All-American from D2, and like all Texan players, he's tough. He will also play on offense; in high school, he played Tight End and Fullback. I'm certain that both will be game-changers. Another weakness in our defense is the lack of depth in the roster, especially in the linebacker group. He’s a legend of Italian football. He's the Center and captain of the National Team, and one of the leaders of Dolphins' offense . You're certainly the most experienced player on the team. How have the Dolphins changed tactically and mentally over the years? How much has the offense improved? What still needs to be improved? Over the years, we have grown significantly. The offensive system has improved a lot; the previous years it used to be focused on passing, now it's much more balanced. Our Offensive Coordinator, Loris Aquinati, has been able to create a playbook that leverages the athleticism of our offensive line, which in previous years, being an undersized group, struggled against the defensive lines of other teams. This factor has helped us improve our running game, which was a fundamental element of our offense last year. One aspect we need to improve is definitely our mentality. Being a very young team, we need to learn not to drop our intensity during games and play every quarter with the same level of focus. In terms of physicality, most of our players have started working out in the gym consistently over the past year, and this will certainly help us throughout the season. You're now one of the contenders for the IFL 2024 title. Do you believe you'll be able to go all the way this season? How much has the unity of your group impacted your team's performance? Our goal is certainly to win the championship. However, in the last 3 years, we have always been defeated in the semifinals. The unity of the Dolphins family is crucial; both on and off the field, we are always together, and over the years, this has helped us grow as a team. One of the reasons that did not help us from reaching the final last year was definitely the 13 injuries we had during the season, which is quite a significant number. However, other teams also faced injuries, so this cannot be an excuse. We have more team confidence, and we have grown both mentally and physically. We are practicing  well. We no longer want to be a mediocre team like in past years, where we always lost against stronger teams like Guelfi and Parma. Instead, we want to take the big step and reach the final. Raffaele Rotelli, Safety Let’s conclude the interview with Raffaele Rotelli’s words, one of the most talented young players in italy, who became one of ancona’s defensive leaders with his attitude and talent. Last season, you showed excellent defensive solidity, characterized by the presence of experienced players and young talents. How much and in which aspects has the Dolphins' defense grown? In what areas do you think you still need to improve? Do you think you will be solid again this year with the arrival of the two American imports? Our defense has grown a lot compared to last year primarily because many players, including myself, have started working hard and consistently off the field. We all understand the importance of gym work. I'm confident that we'll have a very solid defense. We need to improve communication in the middle of the field, also to help the two new American guys, Bo and Hayden, who are integrating very well into our defense. Especially with Bo, I've managed to build a great relationship off the field because is a very young guy like me. Both are trying to adapt to our defensive playbook, and we need to be able to help them because it's their first year playing with the Dolphins. They are very excited and can't wait to start. Last season, you were close  to the Italian Bowl in Toledo. What was missing for you to reach the final? How confident are you now? Do you think you are ready to win the title? We are very confident in ourselves, and our goal is to win the championship. What we lacked in previous years is how we approached games against the other contenders; we always lost to them. This year, we want to show that we are at their level and beat both Guelfi and Panthers. We need to improve how we start playing during important games like that; often, we perform badly in the first quarters, while in the second part of the game, we wake up and start playing differently.
