1st Place: Firenze Guelfi

The Guelfi Firenze steamrolled over the Varese Skorpions with a 42-6 win in week 3. The main star of the show once again for the Guelfi was their italian QB Andrea Fimiani who felt unstoppable on saturday. Fimiani rushed for a TD and threw five more respectively to Formosa, Casati, Salum and twice to Stola. The defense looked amazing too for Firenze, allowing only 6 points to a high powered offense like the Skorpions’ is never easy. After this impressive win the Firenze Guelfi will be hosted by the Ferrara Aquile in week 4, looking to keep on dominating the Girone B.

2nd Place: Legnano Frogs

Impressive effort by the Legnano Frogs who were able to dethrone the Parma Panthers in a 24-21 win that could go down as the best game of the season when it’s all said and done. If you haven’t seen it, go back on Fidaf TV’s YouTube and go watch it, it’s worthwhile. The Frogs had to chase the Panthers in score through the first three quarters, but the legend of Italian football Luke Zahradka, was able to keep his team in the game by throwing a passing TD to Dayan Almeida, who’s becoming a key piece in the Frogs offense after the late signing, and by rushing for two more TDs himself. It’s amazing to see what Legnano can do after finally cleaning up all the penalties they were suffering on both sides of the field in the past couple of weeks.

The defense was struggling in the first half, but in the second it felt like they had the Panthers figured out, not allowing them to score a single point and finally sealing the deal thanks to Maffi who had a key interception late in the game. It was #88 Masini who sent the ball through the uprights to give Legnano the lead and ultimately the win. In week 4 the Legnano Frogs have a bye week, and they’ll host another tough contender in the Rhinos Milano who’ll be going after the kings of the Girone A in week 5.

3rd Place: Parma Panthers

The Parma Panthers have unexpectedly lost 24-21 against the Legnano Frogs! Let’s not overreact, in 2024 the Panthers went 5-3 and were still able to bring home the title after an amazing playoff run. They looked like they were in control of the game in the first half, they were first to score with a TD reception by Zatti and they were able to keep the points coming when the Frogs caught up. First  with a rushing TD by the import LB readapted to RB Jaylin Parnell and then with another rushing TD this time by their import QB Robbie Patterson to make it 21-14.

In the second half though the Panthers offense was completely shut down, and the Frogs were able to put up 10 unanswered points, just enough to bring the game home. It was shocking to see the usually unstoppable Panthers offense be contained for a whole half, definitely not a good sign for Parma. In week 4 the Parma Panthers have a bye week to regain and learn from this loss, after that they’ll host the Bologna Warriors in their home-opener to try and get back to their winning ways.

4th Place: Torino Giaguari

The Torino Giaguari looked great in their 20-7 win against the Aquile Ferrara. First and foremost we want to highlight the amazing performance by Paolo Lazzaretto, the class 2005 CB wearing #7 for the Giaguari had a huge impact in this game with two leaping interceptions, one of them on the first play of the game, which was capitalized on by a rushing TD from the QB wearing #2 Evan Lewandowski. Speaking about #2, 2+8 is a perfect 10, that’s the score that the duo Lewandowski and Serra deserves so far this season, they’re just electric out there, showing us surgical throws and strong hands to help Giaguari drive down the field. The other two TDs for Torino were scored on a short run by Giovanni La Rocca and on yet another appearance on offense by the defensive import Tavion McCarthy. On the defensive side of the ball we saw an impressive performance also by #23 Jacopo Pochettino, who had both an interception and a sack in this game. In week 4 the Giaguari Torino will look to stabilize themselves in second place of the Girone B by beating the Varese Skorpions, which is never an easy opponent to face, we’ll see how the Giaguari fare against them.

5th Place: Milano Rhinos

The Milano Rhinos did not play in week 3 and they will stay in 5th position as they watch the rest of the ranking get scrambled. In week 4 we’ll see the Milano Rhinos take the field again though, when they face off against the 6th placed Ancona Dolphins with the aim of establishing themselves in the top 3 fight of the Girone A.

6th Place: Ancona Dolphins

The Ancona Dolphins also didn’t play in week 3. They’ll be looking to join the conversation for top 3 in the Girone A next week in an interesting matchup versus the Milano Rhinos which could turn out to be the game of the week in week 4.

7th Place: Skorpions Varese

Should we start to be worried for the Varese Skorpions? Is it too early to push the panic button? After an 8-0 campaign in the 2024 season we see them fall to 1-1 in their second match of 2025, which saw them being beaten on by the Firenze Guelfi in a game that ended 42-6. Granted the Guelfi could be just this dominant in the Girone B, but to be honest it looks like the Skorpions are really missing the Griffin brothers’ help on offense. Apart from Marcheselli’s receiving TD in the first half and the usual Zanovello with a few nice receptions, we barely saw any promising signs by the Varese offense and it’s starting to look worrying. It’s way too early to lose all hope though, as in week 4 the Varese Skorpions have a shot at the second place in the Girone B against the Torino Giaguari, who’ve looked really solid so far this season.

8th Place: Ferrara Aquile

It’s another noble failure for the Aquile Ferrara, who fell short against the Giaguari Torino in week 3. After Aaron Allen was injured in week 1, the Aquile decided to bring in German QB Salieu Ceesay on a short notice, and it showed how little time he had to work with the team after he finished the first half with three interceptions. That doesn’t tell the whole story though, Ceesay threw 2 passing TDs, both nullified by penalties by the offensive line, and finally in the third quarter he rushed in to score the only points of the day for the Aquile in the 20-7 loss.

Ferrara also brought out a new face on defense, their import Percy King, who had a great TFL in the first half and started the second half by recovering a fumble on the very first play. All together it’s a tough start of the season for the Aquile who just keep on being good, but not good enough. In week 4 the Ferrara Aquile will face their toughest opponent yet, the Firenze Guelfi, in what anticipates to be a David versus Goliath matchup.

9th Place: Warriors Bologna

The Bologna Warriors won 19-14 on the road to break their losing streak! Their import QB Viktor Wessberg transformed into Vanilla Vick to bring home the week 3 game against the Bergamo Lions. Every time the Lions were able to maintain the coverage on defense, Vanilla Vick was able to scramble and keep the drive alive. He initiated the scoring in the first half, which ended 0-6 The second half was then followed up with two rushing TDs from Rezk Khalafalla, who was able to have an incredible performance whilst fasting for ramadan. After a bye week, the Bologna Warriors will face the Parma Panthers away from home in week 5.

10th Place: Lazio Marines

The Lazio Marines did not play in week 3, they moved down to 10th because the Warriors deserved to move up after this weekend. In week 4 we’ll see them take on the Albisola Pirates in a matchup at the bottom of the Girone B that could be very important for the race to avoid the playdown.

11th Place: Albisola Pirates

The Albisola Pirates did not play in week 3 and they’ll stay in 11th place for this week. They’ll be looking to get themselves out of the last place in the Girone B and score their first points in the IFL in week 4, when they’ll host the Lazio Marines in their home-opener in Albisola.

12th Place:  Bergamo Lions

Picture of Davide Silvestri by Paolo Aldrighetti (@paoloaldri)
Picture of Davide Silvestri by Paolo Aldrighetti (@paoloaldri)

A hugely disappointing loss for the Bergamo Lions puts them in last place of the Girone A three weeks into the IFL season. Although the score was only 14-19, it was just too little too late for the Lions who weren’t able to get a spark on offense until half way through the 4th quarter when Jordan Boclis recovered a fumble and the home team was able to put up two consecutive TD drives. Jay Butterfield threw one of the TDs, after having a really rough game for the most part, which was caught by Leonardo Cabroni, the other score was on a rush by the recently acquired RB Davide Silvestri

Through the game we saw Bergamo lose most of its stars on both sides of the ball: Luca Aldrighetti and Giovanni Zani dropped injured and the import S DJ the dream was ejected from the game after a targeting penalty. The Bergamo Lions won’t play until week 6, when they’ll be hosted by the Ancona Dolphins.
