HFL Power Rankings - Week 4

1. Budapest Cowbells (3-0)

This was one of those performances where everything clicks. Offense, defense, and special teams all contributed, creating a complete and convincing win.

The tone was set late in the first quarter. WR Csumán Botond found the end zone on a receiving touchdown, finishing a well-executed drive. Moments later,K  Horváth Szabolcs added the extra point, and from that point on, the momentum never shifted.

What stood out most was how balanced and composed the team looked. The offense didn’t rush or force plays, they picked their moments. That patience paid off in the third quarter when RB Richard Seay Jr. took over. His first rushing touchdown and from there he became nearly unstoppable. He added two more rushing scores later in the quarter and again in the fourth, consistently finding gaps and finishing runs with authority.

While the offense was efficient, the defense was simply suffocating. They didn’t just stop drives, they erased them. An interception by DB Matias Barrientos in the third quarter shut down one of the few promising moments from the opposition. Shortly after, DB Leszkován Ádám delivered one of the biggest plays of the game, returning an interception for a touchdown. That moment effectively put the game out of reach.

It wasn’t just about big plays, it was about control, discipline, and execution across the board.

2. Budapest Wolves (3-1)

This was a frustrating outing where nothing seemed to fall into place. From early on, it was clear that gaining momentum would be a challenge, and unfortunately, that trend continued throughout the game.

On offense, opportunities were limited. Drives struggled to develop, and the pressure from the opposing defense made it difficult to establish any rhythm. Even when there were small opening runs, they closed quickly.

The only points came from K Szakács Kristóf Gergely, who remained reliable under pressure. He converted a field goal in the first quarter and added another in the second quarter.. Those kicks were important in avoiding a complete shutout, but they also highlighted how hard it was to break through for touchdowns.

Defensively, there was effort and determination.  DB Tóth Alejandro István added an interception in the fourth quarter. Players continued to fight, even as the game started to slip away. However, they were constantly put back on the field and eventually worn down by repeated drives and explosive plays. Against an offense performing at such a high level, even small mistakes were quickly punished.

3. Újpest Bulldogs (1-2)

Bulldogs hold on to 3rd place this week without playing, as no changes occurred in the standings around them. It’s a solid position that reflects their consistency so far.

Now, the focus shifts forward. They’ll be looking to secure a win in their upcoming matchup against Győr and keep pushing toward the top.

4. Blue Dragons Belgrade (1-2)

This game turned into a real showcase, and the Blue Dragons were a huge part of that. Even though the result didn’t go their way, their performance was full of intensity, big plays, and constant pressure on the opposition.

They made an early statement with a defensive touchdown by DL Luke Škorića, an interception returned all the way, setting the tone and showing they were ready to compete. From there, the offense stepped up and kept the game alive.

WR Elijah Smoot was one of the standout players, making key receptions and scoring multiple touchdowns through the air. He was a consistent threat and gave the defense plenty to worry about throughout the game.

The rushing attack added even more depth, with a touchdown in the third quarter and another important score late in the fourth from QB Michael Cornwell. Even as the game started slipping away, they continued to push, refusing to back down and keeping the pressure on until the final minutes.

What really defines this performance is resilience. It wasn’t perfect, but it was full of fight. In a game packed with highlights and momentum swings, they stayed in it and made sure it was never an easy win for their opponent.

5. Budapest Titans (1-2)

This one felt different from the start. Titans didn’t just walk away with their first victory, they earned it through effort, persistence, and a performance that showed real growth. It wasn’t an easy game by any means, but that’s exactly what makes it more meaningful.

The offense found its rhythm and kept building momentum as the game went on. QB Johnathan Avery Bennett was a major force on the ground, punching in multiple rushing touchdowns and consistently pushing the offense forward when it mattered most. At the same time, the passing game added balance, with RB/WR Ambrus Előd and WR Dániel Bende both stepping up with receiving touchdowns that kept the defense guessing.

One of the biggest difference-makers, though, came from the defensive side. WR/DB Myles Marquise McKatherine  had a standout performance, grabbing interceptions and scoring on the offensive side. Those plays didn’t just stop drives, they completely shifted momentum and gave Titans the edge in key moments.

More than anything, this win showed character. After tough results earlier in the season, they stayed focused, kept working, and proved they belong in the fight.

6. Győr Sharks (0-2)

Sometimes a team can lose ground without even stepping on the field, and that’s exactly what happened here. After being placed 5th last week, Győr dropped one spot following Titans first win, slipping down in the standings despite not playing.

Now, all attention turns to their next matchup and it’s a big opportunity. Playing at home, Győr will be looking to secure their first victory of the season against the Bulldogs. It’s the kind of game that can shift momentum completely.

The level of competition keeps rising week by week, and it’s starting to show. This championship is shaping up to be extremely balanced, where any team can beat anyone on the right day. It’s no longer just about talent. It’s about preparation, focus, and who executes better when it matters most.

Most games are tight, intense, and unpredictable, which only makes the race even more exciting. Nothing feels guaranteed, and every result can shift the standings in a big way.

Looking ahead, the next key matchup comes on May 10, when Győr faces the Bulldogs at home. Then, on May 16, Győr is heading to Budapest, playing back-to-back weeks, this time against the Titans.

These two games could play a major role in how the power rankings shape up next. Until then, it’s all about waiting to see who steps up and takes control.
